What a narrated capsule is — and why it took hold

A narrated capsule is a short pedagogical video, from one to about ten minutes, in which the visual content advances at the pace of a narration that explains it. Teaching and learning centres recommend it because it respects how people learn at a distance: one concept at a time, a steady pace, a record the student can rewatch the night before the exam, at her own speed, with subtitles.

Whether you are moving a full course to asynchronous delivery, preparing remedial material or explaining the notion the class stumbles over every term, the logic is the same: say it once, well, and let the video do the repeating.

The format nevertheless has a hidden cost: production. Narrating a slide deck yourself demands a quiet room, several takes, editing software — and everything is redone at the first content change. That is precisely the work Acavisio takes on.

Each capsule can stop on an activity: assembling a diagram, reordering the steps of a process, correcting an error slipped into a line of reasoning. The answer is a gesture, not a text to copy and paste, and every student receives their own variant — different data, wording and order.

It is our way of defending academic integrity: rather than watching over students, make authentic assessment workable at the scale of a class, from CEGEP to doctorate, without ever condescending. The process counts as much as the result, and it shows.

Your documents remain yours
